Understand human anatomy and physiology and their relationship to dance.
For example:
- identifying major skeletal structures of the body and structures and functions of muscles, tendons, and ligaments
- demonstrating knowledge of the basic principles of movement (e.g., flexion, extension, rotation, abduction)
- understanding how skeletal alignment and body mechanics affect dance movements and movement potential
- recognizing terminology and concepts related to kinesiology, conditioning, and somatics (e.g., kinesthetic awareness, movement efficiency, mind-body connection, imagery, breathing)

For example:
- understanding principles and practices of dance conditioning that promote flexibility, muscular strength, endurance, agility, motor-skills development, control, and balance
- understanding principles and practices of injury prevention and ways to create a safe physical and emotional environment for dance learning (e.g., skeletal alignment, warm-up activities, dance-floor composition, promoting social-emotional learning)
- recognizing causes, symptoms, and treatment of common injuries and health issues associated with dance
- understanding basic health and nutritional practices for dancers
