- analyzing the purpose of information presented in electronic, print, and mass media and in diverse formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively, orally) and evaluating the motives (e.g., social, commercial, political) behind its presentation
- analyzing the main ideas and supporting details presented in diverse media and formats, including how the ideas clarify a topic, text, or issue
- analyzing messages and points of view conveyed in various media (e.g., advertising, news programs, Web sites, video games, blogs, documentaries)
- analyzing how design elements of visual images (e.g., symbols, shapes, color, composition, perspective, style, content) are used to emphasize or reinforce particular messages, meanings, and themes
